Growing up, I was always a “husky” kid. I always thought that our bodies developed into themselves, no matter how we treated them. High school was the first time I realized we could make changes to our life and actually change our body. I started lifting weights on this rickety bench with my uncle in the garage. I was hooked! I continued weightlifting through high school. I saw strength as a way to change who we are. As an adult, my weight fluctuated up and down depending on the season. I’ve done fad diet after fad diet and binge ate in between. I was not good at balancing my working out, social life, and eating right. I thought I knew a good bit about nutrition, but I did not, and did not have a good relationship with food. I eventually found the sport of bodybuilding. I was so intrigued that these people could take their bodies to this extreme level. I wanted to try that. I was able to compete and see my body change and that my body felt better when I was choosing better nutrition. I was almost obsessed with nutrition and wanted to help people see food as the fuel it is. This brought me to the next phase of life, now, as a registered dietitian. I find so much joy in helping others learn to be the best versions of themselves. Realizing, that we can learn to reach our nutrition goals and have to freedom to enjoy the foods we love. No one of us is built the same, so why should we have to eat and train the same?!
